About This Website
This page describes this website, what it's for how to use it.
Site Administrators
This site is maintained by the Friends of Critical Mass, an ad-hoc group of people who participate in Chicago's Critical Mass rides. They/we are not the leaders of Critical Mass (as there are no leaders) and do not speak for Critical Mass in any way, except as every other participant does -- only as a participant. The Friends Of Critical Mass has no regular meetings and maintains no membership roles.
Not Official
It is important to note that this website is not an official mouthpiece for (Chicago) Critical Mass as there is nothing official about Critical Mass. Because (C)CM has no leaders and no structure, there can be no official website covering it. (read more here) Since there is nothing official about this site, it stands to reason that any other site about Chicago Critical Mass is just as valid as this one.
Any views expressed in the "about" pages are those of whoever wrote that bit. The views expressed in "The Rides" ride reviews and flyer uploads are those of whomever posted that review/content. If you don't like something you read, GET INVOLVED and figure out how to change it.
About This Site
This website was built by the bikegeeks to carry on telling the story of Chicago's Mass. It is an update to the website originally built by Jim Redd. (The old CCM site is archived here.)
This new version, built using the open-source Drupal CMS, lets the community tell its own story. The site now allows users to post their own ride reviews and upload flyers that they (or others) passed out during a ride. Allowing CM participants to post their own content, rather than wait for a webmaster to do it for them, was the main motivation for this new site.
How To Use
To add your own ride reports, you need to log into the system. To do this, you need to register on the Westgate system of websites. To do this, simply click the "login" link and select the "register" link from there. This will allow you to sign up for a Westgate account. Once your account is active, just log into the site and you'll be allowed to post your own ride reports and upload your own flyers.
