June 2007: The Movie

June 2007: The Movie

Report from the June, 2007 Ride:

The following links you to a series of videos I made from the June 2007 ride. Pardon all my editorializing in Parts 1 & 2, but I wanted to give the uninitiated a look into the Chicago Critical Mass experience, particularly all the cool bike happenings that spin off of our monthly ride. If you don't have the time for that, at least check out Part 3 - it’s a MUST SEE!

What's Critical Mass? It's a global cycling movement that has people all over the world gathering in hundreds of cities the LAST FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH. In Chicago, we meet by a huge Picasso sculpture in Daley Plaza, Washington & Clark at 5:30pm. I start the video by talking about Critical Mass and showing off some fliers I received before the ride started: World Naked Bike Ride pix, POOL TOUR 2007 video, Critical Mass - it's not just a bike ride -
get connected!

As the graphic designer behind the look and feel of this website, I had to plug the redesign of chicagocriticalmass.org. Just like the ride, the site is now open to the public! However, unlike the ride, you will have to register :(~ The good news is creating a login will allow you to submit ride reports and upload fliers, so do it bloggy-style online and add your voice to the conversation. Part 2 then has us follow the ride out of the Loop and take it south through Little Italy.

MUST SEE CLIP! This was the best part of the June 2007 Chicago Critical Mass bike ride. Todd Allen has the most badass mobile sound system on the ride, and you can definitely see how music makes the bike party as we head north on California.

As the June Ride winds down, we take a moment to consider the possibility that Chicago's Critical Mass Movement will go into retirement after the 10th Anniversary Ride on Friday September 28. Personally, I'm shocked that people are falling for the Grand Finale Pranksters; c'mon people, YOU ARE THE RIDE! YOU ARE THE MOVEMENT!! No one can pull the plug on that, so start thinking for yourselves and get involved in growing Critical Mass: invite your friends, convince a coworker to bike to work on Fridays, spread the bike love! We end at the after-party and hear a story about things that go bump in the night from a woman named Lucky ;^)

till next month ~ steven
