anti-climactic ?

anti-climactic ?

Report from the September, 2007 Ride:

It was weird when we didn't circle the plaza. I was kinda looking forward to that , but I guess the addition of the marching band necessitated them just leaving the plaza so that they could stay out infront. So right off the bat the mass was a bit disjointed. When I decided that the mass was leaving and I should catach them, the plaza still had a lot of ppl in it. I have mixed feeling about not circling, but I thought it was stupid to choose to leave from the south west corner. I think that is why the main plaza was still full, you couldn't really see what was going on. There are 2 other high visibility corners that would have been a better idea to leave from. If this was the only faux-pas of the ride I think we could have recovered from that but, then on michigan we came to a stop. When i finally got to the front I saw no marching band (did the ride get split?) and that the cops had blocked us from going south to let cars cross michigan for a good 10 minutes or so. After they finally let us continue the ride seemed really confused. Many narrow one-way downtown streets where I walked more then biked. Then onto narrow grated(eek i hate those things) bridges where I walked more until the ride fanned out on the other side. Now i was riding faster then i usually ride in a mass, which was very thin and slightly dangerous. Cars poking through. massers not corking well (partially due i think to ppl trying to play catch-up, and partially due to confusion me thinks). Then while going west (i think) on North ave, at one intersection there seemed to be a bunch of bikes joining us from the north. did we get split up?

here's to october being a bit tighter. and with more "happy fridays" (again around me there were very few ppl actually saying that, and sometimes giving me weird looks when i would. whats up with that?)
